Why Your Candle Might Be Making You Sick (And What to Do About It)

Why Your Candle Might Be Making You Sick (And What to Do About It)

Ever lit a candle to relax and ended up with a headache? Yeah, me too. That was before I learned what most candles are actually made of.

Here’s the deal: most mainstream candles are made with paraffin wax, a petroleum byproduct (yep… like what’s in gasoline). When burned, it can release chemicals like toluene and benzene, both linked to things like asthma, hormone disruption, and even cancer. Yikes.

And let’s not even talk about synthetic fragrance. That dreamy “vanilla cupcake” scent? It might contain phthalates, which mess with your hormones. Not exactly the cozy vibe we’re going for.

That’s why I started making my own candles with pure beeswax, cotton wicks, and essential oils. Not only do they smell amazing (think: clove and cinnamon swirling through your kitchen), they actually clean the air by releasing negative ions. It’s like a breath of fresh air....literally.

So next time you light a candle, take a sec to think about what you’re inviting into your home. You deserve warmth, beauty, and health...not hidden toxins.
